The Nordic Volcanological Center (NordVulk) and its host, University of Iceland, invites highly qualified graduates from all over the world to apply for one of the announced PhD or Post Doc fellowships.
NordVulk is a common Nordic facility. We aim at being an internationally leading research center within volcanology in a broad sense. Research aims at NordVulk includes to increase and improve the knowledge of volcanic systems and the processes governing them as well as assessment and investigation of environmental impacts related to volcanic areas. The core activities comprise international research co-operation and publications, a fellowship programme for younger researchers as well as educational courses.
We here advertise for the first time three full PhD fellowships open for application. These projects are set up as collaborative Nordic projects aimed to result in dual degrees between several Nordic Universities where possible. The candidate will be required to travel between the involved Universities, with extended periods at other Nordic Universities than University of Iceland.
NordVulk furthermore announce 2-year Post Doc fellowships. Four specific Nordic collaborative projects are announced in competition, but only the top two candidates among all the Post Doc applicants will be selected for funding.
Deadline for application is March 1st, 2021.

You can apply for a PhD position with a predefined Nordic collaborative project; all three projects will be funded (links below).
To be considered for PhD fellowship, you must have passed a qualifying exam that corresponds to a master's degree. The holder of the fellowship is then employed as a PhD research fellow at the University of Iceland. The collaborative nature of the projects implies that the PhD student will need to travel to other Nordic Universities during the studies for variable lengths of time.
